Patio Design Trends: 2019

Our outdoor spaces have become one of the most important areas in the home: a place for chilling out, connecting with friends and family, entertaining, and enjoying long, lazy lunches.

If you plan on renovating your outdoor spaces this year, here are our top trends to give your patio a fresh, inviting feel.

1. Texture and design with interest

We expect to see interior-worthy design in outdoor spaces this year.

Visually interesting pieces featuring rope, slatted plastics, and wooden elements with luxurious detailing will take centre stage on stylish patios in 2019.

2. Blurred lines

Gone are the days of your patio being an afterthought.

In some of the country's most gorgeous houses, you'll find that there is a lack of distinction between indoor and outdoor areas of the home  - and for good reason.

A well-designed, attractive and functional outdoor area acts as an extension of the home - a secondary living space that can be used all year round.

3. Mixed materials

Combining timeless sophistication with an edgy modernity - mixed material furniture pieces are bigger than ever in 2019: think teak combined with rope (as seen in our Ipanema Lounge Set), slatted hardwood elements paired with sleek aluminium, and crisp white slatted bucket seats off-set against bold wooden lines in the new Essence Dining Range.

4. Drop it low

2019 is the year of the low-slung sofa! All about long, lazy afternoons chilling out on the veranda - these low sofa sets create a relaxed, paired back look on a patio that is meant to be enjoyed!

The new Hydra Sofa Set embodies this super-chilled look, while remaining effortlessly stylish.

5. Bold, chunky timber

This year, there will be continued appreciation for statement-making wooden, slatted furniture frames such as those seen in our flagship Docklands Corner Set (available in both grey and off-white cushion options)

These wooden sofa frames look great paired with coffee tables in matching timber or off-set against concrete side tables.

6. Neutrality

Natural materials and colours that blend in to their surroundings are making a big comeback this year.

Add texture and splashes of colour with the addition of scatter cushions and decorative accents - but keeping the overall look minimalist and clean is the name of the game in 2019.

7. Make it modular

A continuing trend from 2018, modular sofa seating is a win for any outdoor area. These pieces are multi-functional and adapt to your changing needs, based on where you want to sit and who's around!

Check out the Docklands Set, Oslo Sofa or Hydra Set for fresh modular picks!
